About Kym
Mindfulness Practitioner and teacher in Northern California
This increases our happiness.
Kym is a nature based mindfulness practitioner, teacher and eco activist.
I grew up in and around Kamloops B.C. We lived off grid on an old homestead site, growing our own food and drinking water from the natural spring that flowed from the hills.
It was during these formative years were I forged a deep connection with nature - one that has instilled a deep commitment to protecting what is hers.
These experiences are what inform my teaching of mindfulness and my work as a therapist and consultant today.
Kym is committed to working in ways that do not pathologize the person.
As both a therapist and mindfulness practitioner, I am dedicated to the practice of deepening the understanding of ourselves and place in the world. I believe we all have these tools inherently inside us and that therapy is just a way to rediscover them when we become distanced from our ability to draw from this internal well of wisdom.
Kym is dedicated to mental health and wellbeing as a daily practice.
I am also driven by my love of the earth both in my mindfulness work and in my work as a therapist. We can use the planet as our resource to do better and to feel better.
on nature, mindfulness & therapy
My approach to mental health and well being stems from a lifetime of meditation practice, therapeutic study and my time in the wilderness.
I see us all as beings with all the tools to improve our lives and flourish no matter what challenges we face.
I am drawn to mindfulness as a mental health practice because it places all the power within ourselves and avoids the pitfalls associated with diagnosis and labeling.
I work online, in person and outside in nature with individuals and groups with an aim to reconnect to our own deeper knowing of ourselves and the truth about our experience.
Nature provides a beautiful refuge from the stories we compile about ourselves and our lives and brings us into the captivating experiences of our senses. A respite that is always available to
our sentient selves.
My connection with the Dharma and the planet are the foundations of my life’s work.
Since moving to California I have been in private practice as a mental health consultant and as a meditation teacher.
I studied for 1 year and became certified with my teachers Martin Aylward and Mark Coleman at Mindfulness Training Institute in San Francisco. I am presently finishing another 1year teacher training program with Mark Coleman which is integrating Nature and Dharma. Awake in the Wild is the name of the practice.
